MAIZE RELIEF SOCIETY
January 2009
“I believe that as you immerse yourselves in the work of our Father—as you create beauty and as you are compassionate to others—God will encircle you in the arms of His love. Discouragement, inadequacy, and weariness will give way to a life of meaning, grace, and fulfillment.” (President Dieter Uchtdorf, General Conference, October, 2008)
As women in Relief Society we can “create beauty and [be]… compassionate toward others”. As a Presidency, we challenge you to set goals to better fulfill your role as a woman.

2009 Relief Society Themes
Happiness is your heritage!
To emulate God and receive happiness in our souls we can do two things that President Uchtdorf outlined as objectives of God, our Heavenly Father:
creating and being compassionate.
As each of you sisters goes forward this year, it is our prayer that you will achieve happiness in your journey. We hope that you will grow spiritually and temporally as you go about creating and being compassionate in your lives. We ask you to strive to incorporate the vision of creating and being compassionate in the following areas:
- Spiritual Strength
- Missionary/Temple Work
- Provident Living/Preparedness
- Service
Listen to the Spirit guide you as you develop and work on fulfilling your divine nature and mission. What is the Spirit telling you? What are you going to create next? How are you going to be an instrument of compassion in this world?
"As you immerse yourselves in the work of our Father--as you create beauty and as you are compassionate to others--God will encircle you in the arms of His love. Discouragement, inadequacy, and weariness will give way to a life of meaning, grace, and fulfillment."
President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
